The Rise of the Terrors is the second volume, covering the period 1945-1979. In the late 1940s success looked a long way off and the 1950s witnessed some difficult times for Dundee United. However, events towards the end of the decade turned the fortunes of the Club around. The achievements of the 1960s brought First Division stability and the foundations laid by the Directors and Manager Jerry Kerr, were further improved with the arrival of Jim McLean in the 1970s. He took the Club to another level, allowing the fans to witness their first Scottish Cup final and regular European football.

After the club was formed in 1909 as Dundee Hibernian, there were short periods of prosperity but generally, until the end of World War 2, directors, managers, players and supporters were usually facing a battle for survival. A Passion for Survival is what was required to keep the club alive and in the first book by Steve Gracie, you will find out how they pulled through, often against seemingly impossible odds.
